The Coyotes
South Dakota (1-2) earned its first win with a 61-46 road victory at Drake on Monday night. Senior guard
Liv Korngable, the reigning Summit Player of the Week, is averaging a league-best 20 points per game while shooting 52.5 percent from the field. She's joined by the other two pieces of the 'Big Three' in averaging double-figures.
Hannah Sjerven is averaging 16 points and nine boards per game following Monday's 25 and 12 performance.
Chloe Lamb has pitched in 13.7 points per game. The Coyotes will look to build some depth around the trio on Thursday night.
The Chargers
Briar Cliff (3-2, 1-0 GPAC) travels to Yankton on Wednesday night to play Mount Marty in a GPAC contest ahead of Thursday night's game. This will be an exhibition contest for the Chargers. The 5-foot-11 Madelyn Deitchler has led the squad with 20.2 points per game while shooting 71.4 percent from the field. Konnor Sudmann joins her in double-figures with 12.0 points per game.
The Series
South Dakota leads the all-time series 11-1 and have won eight a row. The previous meeting came in 2003. In that contest, All-American Mandy Koupal dropped 33 points and took over as USD's all-time leading scorer.
One Last Thing
Thursday night is the final tune-up before it's Island Time. The Coyotes embark on a journey to the U.S. Virgin Islands next week where USD will face Northwestern, Texas A&M and Pitt on consecutive nights. This marks the first time in the program's NCAA Division I history that the Coyotes will face five Power 5 teams during the nonconference slate – and all five games come in November.
