Bellarmine final test before Summit play

The Game

South Dakota head coach Todd Lee welcomes an old friend in Bellarmine head coach Scott Davenport for a non-conference tilt Wednesday inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center. Lee started at Kentucky Wesleyan at the same time Davenport began at Bellarmine ahead of the 2005-06 season. The duo squared off 20 times for their respective teams at the Division II level. The two coaches meet at the Division I level for the first time Wednesday.

A free stream of the game is provided on GoYotes.com. Fans can tune into the game on the Coyote Sports Network with John Thayer on the call, with the radio broadcast carried on KVHT 106.3 FM in Yankton/Vermillion and KQSF 95.7 in Sioux Falls, or by using The Varsity Network app.

The Coyotes

South Dakota (6-4) stayed unbeaten at home this season with an overtime win against Northern Arizona Saturday. The Coyotes moved to 5-0 at home this season and 59-9 all-time in their new facility. Xavier Fuller matched a season-high with 20 points while Mason Archambault achieved his first collegiate double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Wednesday is the final non-conference bout for South Dakota, which opens Summit League play Monday at home against Oral Roberts.

The Knights

Bellarmine (5-6) is in its second season in Division I after joining the ASUN Conference in 2020-21. In its first D1 season, Bellarmine went 14-8 overall and finished second in the ASUN with a 10-3 conference mark. Much of that team is back including senior, first-team all-conference guard Dylan Penn who leads the team in both scoring (15.7 ppg) and assists (5.5 apg). Bellarmine has faced top-10 teams Purdue, Gonzaga and UCLA this season.

The Series

This is the second meeting between South Dakota and Bellarmine. The first meeting was a 68-66 Coyote victory in Vermillion on Jan. 4, 1966.

One Last Thing

South Dakota hosts Oral Roberts Monday and Kansas City Wednesday next week before the holiday break. Both are 7 p.m. tips inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.
