Coyotes Host Golden Eagles

VERMILLION, S.D. – The South Dakota Coyotes host Oral Roberts in back-to-back games at 3:30 p.m and 2:20 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.

  • Top four scorers in Summit League play will all be in the Sanford Coyote Sports Center this weekend. Max Abmas (25.5), Kevin Obanor (19.9), A.J. Plitzuweit (21.0) and Stanley Umude (19.8)
  • USD is one of six teams in Division I to have two players average over 18 points per game. Oral Roberts is the other Summit League team to do so.
  • Umude ranks 16th in the Division I with 20.9 points per game while Plitzuweit ranks 69th with 18.0 points per game.
  • Plitzuweit is the only player in the Summit League that averages over 16.0 points and 4.0 assists on the season. He set a new career-high of 37 points against Omaha.
  • Umude recorded his fourth 30+ point game of the season with 34 points in game two against SDSU. The same game Kamateros recorded a team season-high 16 rebounds.
  • Coach Lee is two wins away from 200 career wins. He spent eight seasons at Kentucky Wesleyan and is in his third season at USD.
  • The two teams don't have a long history outside of two games in the early 1970s as ORU and USD have only played as league opponents. The two teams haven't played each other in the conference tournament either. ORU holds a 9-7 record all-time while the series is tied 4-4 in Vermillion
ABOUT ORAL ROBERTS
The Golden Eagles are 11-9 and 8-4 in the Summit League this season. ORU along with USD is in the four team run for the regular season title. The Golden Eagles have a 66.7 win percentage which is behind USD, SDSU and NDSU's 75 win percentage. A sweep this weekend will put ORU in a great spot to finish at the top come season end. After splitting a pair with SDSU last week, ORU will face USD and Western Illinois to finish out the regular season. The Golden Eagles hold sweeps over Omaha and Denver while splitting against UND, Kansas City, NDSU and SDSU.
ORU has the top scoring offense in the Summit League averaging 81.1 ppg. ORU is ranked 22nd in DI in the same category. The Golden Eagles also lead the conference in made 3-pointers with 11.6 per game for a 39 percent. The two guys leading the scoring outbursts is Max Abmas and Kevin Obanor. Abmas is second in DI with 23.2 points per game while Obanor is fourth in the conference with 19.2 points per game.
 
SERIES HISTORY
The two teams don't have a long history outside of two games in the early 1970s as ORU and USD have only played as league opponents. The two teams haven't played each other in the conference tournament either. ORU holds a 9-7 record all-time while the series is tied 4-4 in Vermillion.
