Coyotes, Jacks Square off in Brookings

VERMILLION, S.D. – The South Dakota Coyotes travel to Brookings to face in-state rival for back-to-back games at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday inside Frost Arena.

  • As of Feb. 3, the Yotes are tied for the fifth longest active winning streak in the nation with nine straight victories and tied for the third longest active conference win streak with nine straight regular season victories dating back to last season's win over UND in the season finale.
  • USD is one of two schools that have had two different players score over 37 points or more in a Division I game this season.
  • The Yotes are 8-0 for the first time in Summit League play. The last time the Yotes started 8-0 in conference play was the 1999-00 season. This is also the fifth time in program history USD has started 8-0 in conference play.
  • Stanley Umude earned his second conference player of the week honor for averaging 28 points, 6.5 boards and 3.5 assists per game against Omaha. It's his third career weekly honor.
  • A.J. Plitzuweit is the only player in the Summit League that averages 16 points and 4.0 assists on the season. He set a new career-high of 37 points Saturday against Omaha.
  • During this nine game win streak the Yotes are averaging 80.8 points per game and is outscoring its opponents by 17.8 points per game. Umude and Plitzuweit have led the charge for the Yotes during the win streak with 18.9 and 18.3 points respectively.
  • Tasos Kamateros has provided huge production over the past few series. During this nine game win streak he has been the third leading scorer on the team with 10.3 points. Kamateros set a new career-high against Western Illinois with 21 points.
ABOUT SOUTH DAKOTA STATE
The Jacks are the preseason favorite this season after returning the league player of the year and the freshman of the year. SDSU comes into the weekend with a 10-3 record and a unblemished 4-0 record in conference play. The Jacks have had multiple gaps between games this season. They had a 23 day gap between the final game of the Dakota Showcase on Dec. 12 and their next game on Jan. 4 against Mount Marty. They then have had two series cancelled this conference season, including last weekend's series against Denver.
SDSU has put up 80.5 points per game and has allowed 71.3 points per game this season. They hold their opponent to 41.8 percent from the field while shooting near 50 percent from the field. The Jacks shoot 41.9 percent from deep which ranks second in the nation behind Baylor's 43.4 percent.
The Jacks are led by Noah Freidel with 17.6 points, 4.5 boards and 2.2 assists per game. Preseason player of the year Douglas Wilson is second with 15.8 points. Baylor Scheierman (13.8) and Alex Arians (11.8) round out the double figure scoring for SDSU.



SERIES HISTORY
The Jacks old a 129-97 record dating back to the 1914-15 season. SDSU currently holds a 80-23 series lead all-time in Brookings. USD defeated SDSU the first time the two teams faced each other this season at the Sanford Pentagon. The last time the Yotes recorded a victory in Brookings was in 1999-00 season with a 65-58 victory.
