VERMILLION, S.D.—Five home track and field meets, including the 2021 Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Championships, highlight South Dakota's outdoor track and field schedule unveiled Monday.
 
This marks the second time that South Dakota will host the Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The Summit Championships are scheduled for May 13-15. USD was scheduled to host the meet during the 2020 season that was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Coyotes last competed for a conference title on their home track in 2016.
 
All five home competitions throughout April and May will be held at the state-of-the-art Lillibridge Track Complex and Gottsleben Field. The five-year-old facility features a nine-lane, 400-meter, NCAA-certified BSS 2000 track surface and competition areas for field events all viewable from the 1,000-seat grandstands.
 
In addition to the Summit meet, South Dakota will host on April 3 (USD Early Bird), April 9-10 (South Dakota Challenge), April 20 (USD Twilight), and May 7 (South Dakota Tune-Up).
 
The Coyotes will also compete at a handful of relay meets filled with tradition – the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays (March 24-27), the Drake Relays (April 21-24) and the local Sioux City Relays (April 16-17). In lieu of a canceled Kansas Relays, the Coyotes will compete at the Rock Chalk Classic (May 1).
 
Postseason competition begins after the Summit meet as individuals ranked in the top-48 of the west region will advance to the NCAA West Preliminary held in College Station, Texas, May 27-29. The top-12 finishes per event advance to the NCAA Championships held June 9-12 in Eugene, Oregon.
 
The final meet on South Dakota's 2021 schedule is the U.S. Olympic Trials scheduled to return to TrackTown (Eugene, Oregon) on June 18-27. Select Coyotes will take the stage with the nation's best and attempt to make Team USA for the delayed 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
