Mitchell named USC Scholar All-Region

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – South Dakota senior midfielder Alexis Mitchell earned a spot on the 2020 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Scholar All-West Region team. This is Mitchell's second straight honor.
 
Mitchell, a senior midfielder from Lee's Summit, Mo., also earned all-Summit League honors this past spring season after she helped the Coyotes earn their second conference tournament berth since joining the league. She led the Coyotes in goals scored with seven and ranked fifth in the conference in goals as well. Mitchell, who started all 17 games, was second on the team with four assists and had two games of two or more goals this season.
 
The senior's name is in the record book in several different categories including 11th in goals and points all-time, tied for fifth all-time with 12 career assists and third in penalty kicks made with four.
 
Mitchell graduated this past December with a 3.71 cumulative GPA in mathematics and is currently pursuing a master's degree in Kinesiology and Sport Management. She will suit up for the Coyotes for the final time this fall season.
 
To be eligible for Scholar All-Region recognition, student-athletes must meet the following criteria:
  • 3.40 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) or better throughout career
  • Started more than 50 percent of all games and significantly contribute to their team
  • Nominated by head coach of current College Services member institution
  • Junior or above in academic standing; and, if a transfer student, in second year at school
