Heisler named NCC Player of the Week

VERMILLION, S.D.—South Dakota forward Natalee Heisler has been selected North Central Conference Player of the Week for January 16-21 by the conference office.
 
Heisler, a 6-foot-1 junior from St. Peter, Minnesota, scored 46 points, grabbed 16 rebounds and had eight assists as South Dakota split a pair of league games on the road at Augustana (W, 88-85) and No. 2 South Dakota State (L, 70-85). South Dakota improved to 3-4 in the NCC and 4-12 overall.
 
Her weekend was highlighted by a school record 10-of-10 effort from the foul line in the win over Augustana on Jan. 20. She scored 18 points, grabbed five rebounds, dished out five assists and blocked one shot.
 
Heisler scored a season-high 28 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the loss at No. 2-ranked South Dakota State. She added three assists and two steals.
 
For the week, Heisler connected on 54.2 percent (13-24) from the field and 80 percent (20-25) from the foul line. Heisler connected on a school record 27 consecutive free throws, nailing all her attempts during the St. Cloud State, Mankato State and Augustana. She missed her first free throw attempt against South Dakota State on Jan. 21. Heisler topped the old USD consecutive free throw record of 25 set by Renee Steeve over six games from Dec. 7, 1979 to Jan. 5, 1980.
