USD welcomes Anthony Aparicio-Scallan as the new assistant strength & conditioning coach

VERMILLION, S.D. – South Dakota athletic director David Herbster is pleased to announce the hiring of Anthony Aparicio-Scallan as the new assistant strength and conditioning coach. He will primarily work with volleyball, softball and men's basketball.
 
Aparicio-Scallan joins the athletic department after stints in athletics at Long Island, Houston Baptist, Minnesota and Texas. Recently, Aparicio-Scallan was a performance consultant in Brooklyn, New York where he provided services for SBWC ('20), Gotham Gymnastics ('20) and Brooklyn Elite Volleyball Club ('21). He worked with athletes on speed, agility and plyometric training as well as leading the strength development for their sports.
 
Prior to being a performance consultant, Aparicio-Scallan was the Director of Sports Performance at Long Island University where he was the head of training for 10 sports. While at Long Island he designed warmups, recovery and readiness protocols to ensure optimal performance.
 
While getting his master's at Houston Baptist, he was the athletic performance assistant coach working with beach volleyball, men's and women's golf and cross country. While at Houston Baptist, he helped the  beach volleyball team to their second consecutive Southland Conference Showcase titles.
 
Aparicio-Scallan had two internships with Minnesota Sports Science and Texas Athletic Performance. At Minnesota he worked with men's and women's hockey while at Texas he worked with men's and women's basketball.
 
Aparicio-Scallan is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and by the Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa). He earned his undergrad degree from University of Texas at Austin while getting his Master of Science degree from Houston Baptist.
