Coyotes Open Home Schedule Wednesday Against Lipscomb

The Game
South Dakota opens the home schedule with a Wednesday night clash with Lipscomb. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.

The game will be televised on Midco Sports. The broadcast can be found on Midco+ and ESPN+ as well. Fans can tune into the game on the Coyote Sports Network with John Thayer on KVHT 106.3 FM in Yankton/Vermillion or by using The Varsity Network app.

The Series
Wednesday's game will be the first time these two teams have met in series history.

The Coyotes
South Dakota opened the season on Monday with a defeat to the reigning Big Ten regular season champions. The Badgers spoiled the debut of head coach Eric Peterson by shooting over 50 percent from the field and 46 percent from three while the Coyotes went cold from the floor. Kruz Perrott-Hunt led all scorers in that game with 21 points on 10-of-20 shooting. Perrott-Hunt did his best to keep South Dakota in the game in the first half by scoring 17 points in the first 20 minutes of play. Paul Bruns was the second leading scorer with 10 points in his first game in a USD uniform.

With Wednesday's game being the first at home for the season, South Dakota has dominated its home floor since the new arena opened ahead of the 2016 season. The Coyotes have compiled a 65-13 record at home, winning 83 percent of the time. Non-conference games have been even more lopsided in favor of the red and white. South Dakota holds a 24-8 non-conference record at home since the 2016 season.

The Bisons
Lipscomb went 14-19 in the 2021-22 season and enters its fourth season under head coach Lennie Acuff. They averaged 74 points per game and ranked third in the conference with 15.2 assists per game. The Bisons did not give up many second-chance points as they led the ASUN with 28.3 defensive rebounds per game. Lipscomb defeated North Florida in the first round of the ASUN Tournament before falling to the No. 1 seed Liberty in the quarterfinals to bring an end to their season.

The Bisons return their leading-scorer and first team ASUN selection in Ahsan Asadullah. Asadullah is a 6-10 center from Atlanta, Georgia who is set to begin his sixth season with Lipscomb. Asadullah did it all for the Bisons, leading them in points (15.2), rebounds (9.0), and assists (114 total) last season. He shot just over 50 percent from the field and tallied 25 blocks on the season as well. All-freshman team selection Trae Benham returns for his sophomore season for Lipscomb. Benham found his spot on the team once conference play began, starting nine of the 14 ASUN games for Acuff's squad. He averaged 8.3 points, 3.2 rebounds, and swiped 15 steals in 2021-22. Benham shot 47 percent from the field including a 41 percent mark from downtown.

One Last Thing
Including last season's non-conference slate, the Coyotes have had three seasons in which they did not lose a non-conference game in the Sanford Coyote Sports Center. In terms of home openers, USD has won 14 of the last 15 games.
