WEST FARGO, N.D. – South Dakota men's and women's swimming and diving team had a productive first day of competition inside Hulbert Aquatic Center Wednesday during the Summit League Championships.

All four relays contested, two for men and women, earned All-Summit League honors on opening day while the men's 200 medley relay team set a new school standard in the event.

Adam Fisher,
Jack Berdahl and juniors
Aidan Gantenbein and
Zachary Kopp touched the wall second in 1:27.69, well ahead of the old school standard of 1:29.43.

The Coyotes nearly set school records in all four races contested on the opening night of the championships as the women's team in both races, came within a second and a half of the school mark.

Meanwhile, the men's 800 free relay, a quartet of
Charlie Bean,
Jake Leichner,
Stephen Johnson and
Jacob Won clocked 6:42.80 to place third and just missed the school record of 6:42.70 by one-tenth of a second.

Christina Spomer, placed third in the 200 medley relay in 1:43.83, just off the school record of 1:43.10.

Emily Kahn teamed with senior
Kristen Quigley to finish second in the 800 free relay in 7:29.31, just behind the school record of 7:28.09.

William Johnston, a senior, placed seventh in the one-meter diving competition with a score of 223.30.

Thursday's day two action begins with prelims at 10 a.m. while the finals are at 6 p.m.
