Farris to join volleyball team in fall

VERMILLION – South Dakota women's volleyball coach Leanne Williamson is pleased to announce that Kamryn Farris will be joining the program ahead of the fall 2022 season.

Farris, a 5-foot, 10-inch defensive specialist, just completed a strong career at Lansing High School in Lansing, Kansas, leading the Lions to the state championship in volleyball in the fall and the state basketball final four this winter.

"Kamryn is going to be a great addition to our program and our defensive core group!" coach Leanne Williamson said. "Kamryn is a true student of the game who is constantly working to improve herself through on court training and film study."

Farris, a four-year varsity letterwinner on the volleyball court, led the Lions to four state tournament appearances, capped by the Class 5A state title as senior that finished off a 38-1 season. She compiled 1,251 digs in her four-year career, including 452 as a senior, while also producing 160 career service aces for a Lansing program that fashioned a 140-16 record over that four-year span.

"She has good length in that position and will add to an already good defensive group," said Williamson. "I know that Kamryn will instantly add to our culture, and we are so excited that she will be joining us already this fall!"

Farris was a four-year varsity letterwinner on the hardwood as well, leaving Lansing as the school's all-time leading scorer (975 career points) and rebounder (488). She scored 409 points (17.0 ppg) during her senior season as the Lions closed a 20-5 campaign by reaching the 5A state semifinals.

The daughter of Tom and Cheryl Farris was a two-time all-stater in both volleyball and basketball while she also participated in soccer and track and field, where she qualified twice for the state meet in the 4x800 relay.

Farris plans to study nursing during her time at South Dakota where she will enroll as a freshman and begin classes this fall.
