South Dakota women's soccer announced its full schedule for the 2022 season on Wednesday after the Summit League schedule was released in early June. The Coyotes have an 11 game non-conference schedule that includes two exhibition games to begin the season and will host six of those games at First Bank and Trust Complex.
"This is as challenging a schedule as we have had in my time at South Dakota playing teams both within and out of our region," said USD head coach
Michael Thomas.
South Dakota fires off 2022 with three straight home contests. The season kicks off with exhibition games against Briar Cliff on August 11 and Creighton on August 13. The regular season starts at home for the Coyotes against Loyola Chicago. That game on August 18 will be the first time the Ramblers have made the trip to Vermillion since 2013.
After a trip to Northern Iowa on August 21, USD comes back home for one game against Colorado State on August 25. The Coyotes and Rams met last season in Fort Collins, Colorado, in a game that ended in a scoreless draw. South Dakota then heads west for a game at Portland State on August 28 to wrap up the weekend.
USD's only mid-week game comes on August 30 in a Tuesday evening game against Dordt. After that, the Coyotes head back out west for a weekend slate in Utah. They square off against Southern Utah on September 2 and Utah Tech on September 4 before coming home for their final home game of the non-conference schedule.
The last two games of the non-conference slate take place on September 8 and September 11. The Coyotes first take on Drake at home before traveling to Ames, Iowa, for a Sunday contest against Iowa State. USD picked up its first win over a power-five program in team history last year after defeating Iowa State 1-0 at home.
South Dakota will look for its third straight Summit League Tournament appearance when the conference schedule begins in Brookings on September 24. The team is led by five fifth-year seniors in
Taylor Cotter,
Teresa Fontenot,
Joana Zanin,
Tiannah Moore, and
Jordan Centineo. Centineo led the team with seven goals and 16 points last season, highlighted by a hat-trick against North Dakota State back on October 17.
The Summit League Tournament expanded to six teams beginning in the 2022 season. The tournament will now take place over the course of two weekends and locations of the games will be based on seeding. It all begins with the quarterfinal games on October 28 and the semifinal games on October 30 with the championship match scheduled for November 5.
