The Game
The South Dakota women's soccer team is back at home this Thursday as they welcome in the Rams from Colorado State. Both teams are looking to avenge a loss on Sunday afternoon in their most recent games.
The Series
Thursday's game will be the second time South Dakota and Colorado State have met. These two teams met in Fort Collins last season in a game that ended in a scoreless draw.
The Coyotes
South Dakota is searching for its first regular season win in week two of the season. The first goal of the year came late in the game on Sunday off the foot of
Joana Zanin.
Ashby Johnston managed to place the ball in an open area with Zanin getting a running start and placing the ball in the back of the net.
The Rams
Colorado State comes to Vermillion with a 1-1 record on the year after splitting their opening road trip to Utah. The Rams defeated Utah Tech 2-1 after Ali Yoshida tapped in the game-winning goal in the 86th minute last Thursday. CSU then wrapped up the Utah trip in Salt Lake City against the Utes and fell 3-0 on Sunday.
The Rams lost their top-two scorers from last season in Gracie Armstrong and Kristen Noonan. Armstrong finished with six goals and 17 points while Noonan tallied seven goals and 16 points. Junior Liv Layton is Colorado State's leading returner on the offensive end after finishing 2021 with two goals, four assists, and eight points. Layton scored the tying goal in the Utah Tech game and took two shots on goal in that contest.
