South Dakota Concludes Road Trip in Tulsa

The Game
South Dakota closes out the road trip against its toughest opponent yet. The Coyotes will play Oral Roberts at 7 p.m. tonight in Tulsa, Oklahoma inside the Mabee Center.

The game will be streamed on oruathletics.com. Fans can also tune into the game on The Coyote Sports Network with John Thayer on KVHT 106.3 FM in Yankton/Vermillion or by using The Varsity Network app.

The Series
South Dakota and Oral Roberts will meet for the 20th time in Monday night's game. This game is a rescheduled game after weather postponed the original date before the Christmas break.

The last meeting in 2022 was arguably South Dakota's most impressive win of the regular season. The Coyotes closed out the regular season with a 92-87 win over Oral Roberts in Tulsa. They held Max Abmas to 14 points that night on 5-of-12 shooting. Tasos Kamateros scored a game-high 23 points in the last meeting.

The Coyotes
South Dakota won its second game on the road this season with an 81-67 win over St. Thomas Saturday night. The Coyotes had been 1-7 on the road this season. Now, USD will play its third road game in five days Monday night against a team that is undefeated in conference play and undefeated at home. Kamateros led the Coyotes in scoring for the second straight game on Saturday with 20 points. He was one of five Coyotes in double-figures joined by 13 points from Kruz Perrott-Hunt, a career-high 13 points from Damani Hayes, and 11 points each from A.J. Plitzuweit and Mason Archambault.

The Coyotes recorded a 55.8 percent mark from the field Saturday night and 45 percent from three. They made 9-of-20 from downtown. The percentage jumped South Dakota from six to third in the nation in three-point percentage at 40 percent on the year. Belmont ranks second at 40.3 percent while Utah State leads the country in three-point percentage at 41.8 percent.

The Golden Eagles
The Summit League preseason favorites are upholding that standard midway through conference play. Entering Monday's game, Oral Roberts is 19-4 this season and a perfect 10-0 in conference play. The Golden Eagles have won six straight games and 16 of their last 17 contests. Their only loss came in a rescheduled match at New Mexico in which the Golden Eagles lost by nine in the middle of conference play. Oral Roberts is ranked 52nd in the latest NET rankings and seventh in the latest mid-major poll.

ORU is led by Abmas, one of the nation's top perimeter scorers. Abmas averages 22 points per game, good for third-best in the nation. The senior is shooting the ball at a 45 percent mark and 37.4 percent from three. His 77 three-pointers made are fifth-most in Division I this season. Abmas has scored in double-digits in all but two games this season and has 13 20-plus point performances including a season-high 37 against Western Illinois on Jan. 12. After Abmas, two other Golden Eagles average double-figures in Connor Vanover (13.7) and Issac McBride (11.9). Vanover, a 7-5 forward from Arkansas, is making a case for defensive player of the year as he owns the second-best total blocks and blocks per game average in the nation. He has 71 total blocks this season and averages over three blocks per game.

One Last Thing
The Coyotes rank in the top-30 in two other categories behind their three-point percentage. USD is 30th in the country in three-point field goals per game with nine per game. They also rank 29th in the nation with a 75.7 free-throw percentage.
