Coyotes post three-set season highs in kills, digs in sweep over Tommies

VERMILLION, S.D. – South Dakota recorded season highs for a three-set match with 50 kills and 59 digs in earning Thursday's Summit League win over St. Thomas inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center. Set scores were 25-17, 25-19, 25-20.

Who Stood Out
Kylen Sealock had 15 kills and Madison Harms 12 kills as the Coyotes hit .273 in the victory. Harms posted a .500 hitting percentage while Amanda Loschen added eight kills and hit .375. Harms and Sealock had two solo blocks apiece as South Dakota (10-7, 4-2 Summit) recorded a season high with five solo blocks. Sealock had eight kills and five digs in set two while Harms had four kills on six swings and three blocks in the decisive third set, a set the Coyotes had to rally to win.
St. Thomas (4-13, 0-6 Summit) had four players register at least four kills, led by Tezra Rudzitis with nine. Ella Voegele had 18 digs and Ellie Gustafson 12. The Tommies had 16 of their 32 kills in the match in the third set, a set that saw eight ties and three lead changes.

Turning Point
The match saw no ties and no lead changes in the first two sets as South Dakota comfortable jumped out to a 2-0 set advantage, producing 18 kills in each set and 29 digs in set two. The third set was tied at 16, 17 and 18 before the Coyotes used a 4-1 surge that turned into a game-ending 7-2 spurt. Harms and Loschen combined on a block to begin the surge and again to make it 23-19. Kills from Loschen and Sealock would end the match.

Notable
  • Freshman setter Avery Van Hook had a match-high 43 assists, three kills and 11 digs for her eighth double-double of the season.
  • Sophomore libero Kamryn Farris put up a career high for a three-set match with 19 digs.
  • Junior Alaina Wolff registered her 10th double digit dig performance with 13 digs.
  • Harms recorded two solo and four assisted blocks to move over 600 in her Coyote career.
Quotable
"Really happy with the three-set sweep," head coach Leanne Williamson said. "Being at home definitely was helpful with that being back in front of our fans. Sets one and two, I felt like we were in control early on and kind of extended the lead. Then set three, they really pushed us. They found some things that were working for them. We had to make some adjustments on the defensive end to be able to combat what they were doing."

Up Next
South Dakota heads to Kansas City (17-8, 5-1) for a Saturday afternoon 1 p.m. matchup with a second-place Roos, a game ahead of the Coyotes in the Summit League standings.
