Three Coyotes recognized with Summit postseason awards

10.26.2023

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.—South Dakota seniors Ashby Johnston and Taylor Ravelo were named to the Summit League second team announced Thursday by the league office. In addition, freshman midfielder Brooke Conway was named to the Summit's all-newcomer team.

Ravelo, a defender hailing from Lakewood, California, picks up her third career all-Summit accolade. An anchor on the Coyote back line, she contributed to six shutouts in 17 starts. Ravelo leads the team in minutes played with 1,491. She's also been a key piece to South Dakota's set pieces, scoring three goals and contributing one assist. Ravelo knocked the game-winners in against North Dakota and North Dakota State during Summit play.

Johnston, a forward out of Corona, California, earns a spot on the all-league team for the first time of her career. She finished the regular season tied for second in the Summit in goals (8) and points (18). She racked up the third-most shots taken by a league player with an average 2.24 shots per game. Johnston put game-winners to the back of the net against Idaho State and St. Thomas.

Conway, a midfielder from Highlands Ranch, Colorado, sits second on the squad behind Johnston with 13 points. That total is tied for eighth in the league this fall. She's tallied four goals and five assists, with her five assists tying for the second-most by a player in the Summit.

South Dakota earned the No. 5 seed for the upcoming Summit League Tournament. The Coyotes are set to face No. 4 Omaha at 2 p.m. (Central) Friday in Denver, Colorado.
