Coyotes sweep Oral Roberts

TULSA, Okla. – South Dakota (13-8, 7-3 Summit) swept Oral Roberts on Thursday night inside the Mabee Center to pick up its third straight win in league play. Game scores went 25-19, 25-22, 25-7.

Who Stood Out
The Coyotes put together a well-balanced match, spreading the offensive love with five hitters notching at least five kills apiece. Freshman outside hitter Samantha Laird led the offensive attack with eight kills on a .208 hitting clip. Senior middle blocker Madison Harms followed with seven kills on 19 swings and just one error to hit .316 on the night while adding six blocks and two service aces. Sophomore libero Kamryn Farris tallied a match-high 18 digs and added two service aces and one kill.

Oral Roberts (3-19, 1-9 Summit) had a team-high eight kills from outside hitter Trinity Freeman who also added eight digs. Natassia Baptiste and Thaynara Jesus followed with five kills apiece. Libero Chloe Salcedo put up a team-high 13 digs.

Turning Point
South Dakota took sets one and two by closer margins but set three saw the Yotes take complete control of the match. South Dakota scored first on an attack error from the Golden Eagles, but a kill from Freeman tied the set up at 1-1. Mattie Johnson's first kill of the night for the Yotes gave them a 2-1 lead and sent Sealock back to the service line. Sealock served 10 straight points to give South Dakota a 12-1 lead and the Yotes didn't look back. Junior middle blocker Keyauna Linwood subbed in and put down the kill to give South Dakota match point, which was then secured for the Yotes by an attack error from Freeman.

Quotable
"I was really happy to see us get better as a team as the match went on," said head coach Leanne Williamson. "Our serving got more consistent with each set and made them move around a lot. Our defense was fairly scrappy as we went as well as after we made some changes in our back court. Our attackers took turns being able to kill the ball throughout the match as well once we settled into what they were doing offensively. A sweep on the road is always going to be something we celebrate!"

Notable
  • With her two solo blocks on the match, Harms has recorded 100 career solo blocks.
  • Senior Brooklyn Schram served as the setter for the Yotes and tallied 25 assists, 11 digs, two kills, two blocks, and one service ace.
  • In set three, the Coyotes hit .435 as a squad while holding ORU to a negative hitting clip and just seven points.
