Coyotes enter top 10

10.09.2023

VERMILLION, S.D.—South Dakota football is No. 10 in this week's FCS Stats Perform Poll released Monday morning. It is the highest ranking for the program since 2017. The move comes after Saturday's 38-7 win against Murray State which moved the Coyotes to 4-0 against FCS foes this season. South Dakota moved up four spots to No. 17 in the AFCA Coaches Poll.

South Dakota hosts Youngstown State at 1 p.m. Saturday inside the DakotaDome. The Penguins (3-2, 1-1 MVFC) are No. 23 in the Stats Perform poll and No. 20 in the AFCA poll after an impressive 31-3 win against then-No. 5 Southern Illinois Saturday. Youngstown State handed Southern Illinois its first loss of the season.

The news means Vermillion will be the site of one of three top-25 matchups taking place this weekend. In addition to South Dakota hosting Youngstown State, North Dakota (15/15) is hosting rival North Dakota State (6/7) and Montana (16/10) is hosting Idaho (3/3) in a Big Sky matchup of 5-1 teams.
