The Game
South Dakota travels to No. 22/23 Creighton for a game at 11:30 a.m. Friday inside the D.J. Sokol Arena in Omaha, Nebraska. The Bluejays are hosting an elementary school day with the stands to be filled by Omaha-area children.
The game will be live streamed on FlooHoops (subscription required). A radio broadcast from the Coyote Sports Network with Jerry Palleschi will also be available on KVHT 106.3.
The Coyotes
South Dakota took advantage of its added depth and a balanced attack in its season opener on Monday, with six scoring in double-figures for the first time since last November.
The Coyotes had two players picked to the all-Summit League preseason teams. Junior do-it-all guard
Grace Larkins was selected to the preseason first team and named to the watch list for the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year. She ranked in the top-three of the league for points, rebounds, assists and steals last season. No player had ranked in the top-five of those categories prior to last season. Sophomore forward
Carley Duffney was voted to the second team. Duffney entered the starting lineup in mid-January and she averaged 15.3 points and 5.1 rebounds in the final 12 games of the season.
The Bluejays
No. 22/23 Creighton returns four starters from last season's NCAA Tournament team, including leading scorer Lauren Jensen. Jensen was joined on the preseason all-Big East team by teammates Morgan Maly and Emma Ronsiek. The Bluejays were picked second in the preseason Big East poll behind UConn.
Creighton downed Summit League foe North Dakota State 75-52 in its season opener. Jensen dropped 23 points on 10-of-15 shooting, while Ronsiek and Maly both scored in double-digits.
The Series
South Dakota and Creighton meet precisely one year from their last matchup. This is the 28th meeting with Creighton and 12th since 2010. USD holds a 14-13 edge in the series, leading 7-4 in the Coyotes Division I era. Creighton ended a six-game winning streak by USD last November.
