SIOUX FALLS, S.D.— South Dakota sixth-year senior
Brynn Paumen has been named the TicketSmarter Summit League Volleyball Defensive Peak Performer of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Â
Paumen, honored for the first time in her career, averaged 1.08 blocks per set through three games as South Dakota went 3-0 at the Capital Credit Union Classic hosted by Green Bay. The Maple Lake, Minn., native totaled 13 blocks on the weekend.
Â
In South Dakota's 3-1 win over Illinois State, the middle blocker had six blocks complimented by 12 kills and a .588 hitting clip. Paumen also added 21 kills on the weekend for the Yotes, averaging 1.75 kills per set.
Â
"I am so excited for Brynn! She was a huge part of our defensive success this past weekend," said head coach
Leanne Williamson. "She clearly blocked the ball a lot, but her presence can make hitters do things that they don't want to do as well."
Â
The Coyotes begin Summit League play on the road as they travel to Omaha on Sept. 23 in a rematch of last year's league championship. First serve is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be streamed on the Summit League Network.
