Paumen picks up first career weekly honor

09.19.2023

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.— South Dakota sixth-year senior Brynn Paumen has been named the TicketSmarter Summit League Volleyball Defensive Peak Performer of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.

Paumen, honored for the first time in her career, averaged 1.08 blocks per set through three games as South Dakota went 3-0 at the Capital Credit Union Classic hosted by Green Bay. The Maple Lake, Minn., native totaled 13 blocks on the weekend.

In South Dakota's 3-1 win over Illinois State, the middle blocker had six blocks complimented by 12 kills and a .588 hitting clip. Paumen also added 21 kills on the weekend for the Yotes, averaging 1.75 kills per set.

"I am so excited for Brynn! She was a huge part of our defensive success this past weekend," said head coach Leanne Williamson. "She clearly blocked the ball a lot, but her presence can make hitters do things that they don't want to do as well."

The Coyotes begin Summit League play on the road as they travel to Omaha on Sept. 23 in a rematch of last year's league championship. First serve is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be streamed on the Summit League Network.
