South Dakota falls to Missouri

COLUMBIA, Mo. — South Dakota (1-3) fell to Missouri in three sets Saturday afternoon insides Hearnes Center. It was the second of three matches for the Coyotes as a part of the Tiger Invitational hosted by Missouri. Games scores went 25-17, 25-19, 25-22.
 
Who Stood Out
Freshman setter Avery Van Hook recorded her second double-double on the season with 14 assists and a career-high and 13 digs. Her two blocks and two aces were also career highs. Junior outside hitter Kylen Sealock recorded a team-high 10 kills to go with her three digs. Senior outside hitter Evelyn Diederich followed with seven kills.
 
Missouri had two hitters in double-digits, including a match-high 12 kills from junior Jordan Iliff. The right side had 12 kills and just one error to hit .524 on the match to compliment her career-high seven blocks, four digs, and two aces. Outside hitter Dilara Gedikoglu added 10 kills and three digs for the Tigers. Middle blocker Morgan Isenberg recorded a career-high nine blocks to help the Tigers outblock the Yotes 12-3.
 
Quick Summary
Set one was a back-and-forth affair early before the Tigers widened the margin to 17-12 on a 3-0 run. A kill from Sealock brought the Yotes back within three at 17-14 before a 4-0 run from Missouri extended the lead to 21-14. Consecutive service aces from Missouri libero Maya Sands ended set one. Set two saw a slow start for the Yotes with Missouri jumping out to an early 7-2 lead. South Dakota would rally back to tie the set at 12-12 and 14-14 before the Tigers responded with five straight points to extend the lead back out to 19-14. Missouri finished the set on a 4-1 run. Set three saw the Coyotes capitalize on the momentum gained in set two and was when Sealock racked up four of her 10 kills. The Yotes fought back from another early 7-3 deficit to tie the game at 19-19 and 20-20, but a final 5-2 push from the Tigers ended the match.
 
Notable
  • Van Hook's three kills came on five attempts with no errors for a .600 hitting percentage.
  • Senior Madison Harms had four kills and two block assists.
  • Freshman defensive specialist Caity Clancy made her second appearance for the Coyotes, checking in and putting up four digs.
