Coyotes, Jackrabbits meet in Brookings for round one

The Game

South Dakota women's basketball takes on in-state rival South Dakota State at 6 p.m. Saturday at Frost Arena in Brookings, South Dakota.

The game will be televised by Midco Sports Network with play-by-play by David Brown, analysis by Freddy Coleman and sideline reporting from Jason Andera. A live stream of the game will also be available on the Summit League Network via the Midco Sports Plus app. A radio broadcast from the Coyote Sports Network with Jerry Palleschi will be available on KVHT 106.3.

The Coyotes

South Dakota (13-6, 2-2 Summit) is coming off a buzzer beater 63-61 victory at St. Thomas on Thursday night. Senior forward Tori DePerry made a layup off an inbounds pass from fifth-year junior Alexi Hempe with 0.4 seconds remaining to avoid what would have been the team's fourth overtime on the road.

Fourth-year junior guard Kendall Holmes made five 3s for the second consecutive contest and finished with a game-high 19 points. Holmes' 42 threes this season leads the league and her 3.5 triples per game in Summit play also tops the charges. Fourth-year sophomore center Natalie Mazurek tallied her third-straight double-figure game with 11 points. Junior Grace Larkins added 10.

The Jackrabbits

South Dakota State (12-5, 4-0 Summit) are the preseason Summit League favorites after sweeping league action a year ago. The Jacks lost four of their top six from last season to graduation or season-ending injuries, but the combo of guard Paige Meyer and forward Brooklyn Meyer have SDSU at the top of the Summit standings again. The Jackrabbits have just one loss to an unranked team this season.

The Jackrabbits return home from a 92-55 throttling of Omaha on Thursday night in Nebraska. Five players scored in double-figures with Paige Meyer's 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting leading the way.

The Series

South Dakota State leads the all-time series 63-35, winning 34 of 45 games in Brookings. The Coyotes' last win in Frost Arena came in 2020.

Up Next

South Dakota is back home in Vermillion next week, hosting Denver at 7 p.m. Thursday inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center for Coach K's Yippin' Night.
