VERMILLION, S.D. — Returning for the 2024-25 academic year is the Delta Dental Coyote Athletes of the Month commences after the Coyotes fall sports returned in full force to kick off the new academic year. Max Schmidtke (Men's Golf) and Avery Van Hook (Volleyball) picked up the first honors Coyote Athletes of the Month for competition in the month of September.
 
MAX SCHMIDTKE, Men's Golf

• A two-time Summit League Peak Golfer of the Week already this season, Schmidtke carded a career-best 205 (-8) for a T3rd finish at SIUE's Dolnec Invitational.
• At Dolnec Invitational, he fired back-to-back 66's (-5) to finish the first day of the event at -10.
• At the Zach Johnson Invitationl (Sept. 23-24) recorded his first collegiate hole-in-one as he took a fourth-place individual finish at the tournament in a field of 81 golfers.

AVERY VAN HOOK, Volleyball

• She's started every game for the Coyotes at setter this season, including all 12 matches in the month of September.
• She recorded her 1,000^th career assist against Louisville at the NKU tournament back on September 6.
• She earned her first Summit League (co-)Offensive Peak Performer of the Week for her play at Iowa's Kwik Star Klassic (Sept. 19-21), where she dished out 144 assists across three matches (11.08/set).
• On the month, 480 assists for a clip of 10.67 per set.
• At the service line, she also dished out six aces with a pair against both Drake and Oral Roberts.
