PREVIEW: Coyotes, Cowgirls to meet Sunday in Vermillion

VERMILLION, S.D. – The South Dakota women's basketball program will get a chance at revenge on Sunday as the Coyotes face Wyoming, the team that eliminated them from the WNIT a season ago.
 
The Coyotes (4-7) and Cowgirls (4-5) play at 1 p.m. inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center. It is the first time the two have met in Vermillion since the SCSC has opened, with the three previous meetings in Vermillion taking place inside the DakotaDome.
 
HOW TO FOLLOW ALONG
Sunday's game between South Dakota and Wyoming will be available to watch on Midco Sports Two and the Summit League Network powered by Midco Sports Plus. Ana Bellinghausen and Brad Newitt will be on the call at 1 p.m. Fans can also listen live on KVHT 106.3 FM or the Varsity Network App as the voice of South Dakota women's basketball, Jerry Palleschi, will have the call from the SCSC.
 
INSIDE THE WYOMING SERIES
• The Coyotes and Lumberjacks meet for the 7th time in series history.
• Last season, The Coyotes fell to Wyoming 84-52 in Laramie in the Super 16 of the WNIT.
• The series history dates back to January 11, 1979, when the two met in Laramie, Wyoming. The Cowgirls won the game 62-57.
• In USD's Division I era, Wyoming holds the series lead 2-1.
• USD is undefeated at home against Wyoming, while the Cowgirls haven't lost to the Coyotes in Laramie. Both teams are 3-0 on their home courts.
 
SCOUTING THE COWGIRLS
• Wyoming is making the trip to Vermillion for the first time since the 2013-14 season Sunday, but the two sides met in the WNIT Super 16 last season, resulting in an 84-52 win for the Cowgirls.
• Wyoming enters Sunday's game on nine days of rest, having last played on Dec. 6 at Missouri State (62-50 loss).
• The Cowgirls are led by Allyson Fertig, who currently averages a double-double of 18.1 points and 11.1 rebounds per game.
• Wyoming has two other players averaging double figures: Emily Mellema (12.6 ppg) and Malene Pedersen (11.2).
 
YOTES AT HOME
• South Dakota has won its last three home games after losing the first two of the season in overtime.
• The Coyotes earned their 100th win inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center earlier this season and currently stand at 101-19 since the building opened.
• Since the opening of the SCSC (2016-17 season), the Coyotes have two undefeated seasons at home compared to just one losing season on the home floor.
• South Dakota has won 13 or more games at home in six of the last seven seasons, not including the shortened 2020-21 season.
 
YOTES VS. THE MWC
• The Coyotes have played 12 games against the Mountain West Conference.
• USD is 6-6 overall against the conference.
• The Coyotes have seen Wyoming and Colorado State three times each, more than any other MWC team.
• The Coyotes are 1-2 against Wyoming since the Cowgirls joined the MWC.
• Earlier this season, USD lost to the MWC's Air Force 73-66.
• The last MWC opponent South Dakota defeated was Colorado State (74-49 on 3/18/18).
