12.03.2024

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — The Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) announced the 31-man All-Newcomer team for the 2024 season that saw four University of South Dakota football athletes on the teams in Quaron Adams, Nate Ewell, Adrian Hawkins, and Mike Reid.

ALL-NEWCOMER TEAM: OFFENSE

Quaron Adams, wide receiver
Adams (So., Phoenix, Ariz.) was the Missouri Valley's biggest deep threat on the season in his first season at South Dakota, averaging a league-best 29.1 yards per reception on the season. He led the Coyotes with his five receiving touchdowns in the regular season which sat T7th in the Valley.

The Iowa State transfer sat second on the team with his 436 receiving yards on just 15 receptions. He was named the MVFC Newcomer of the Week following the 59-0 win at Murray State.

Adrian Hawkins, offensive line
Hawkins (Jr., Baltimore, Md.) started all 11 regular season games for the Yotes at right guard, a transfer from Monmouth (N.J.). He was on the Coyote offensive line that sat second in total yards (441.6 per game) and rushing yards (224.3 per game). The solid play of the entire O-line helped South Dakota land the second-best scoring offense in the Valley at 37.0 points per game through 11 regular season games.

ALL-NEWCOMER TEAM: DEFENSE

Nate Ewell, linebacker
In his first season in the Coyote uniform, Ewell (Sr., Waterloo, Iowa) started all 11 games for the Yotes at linebacker. He sat second on the team with his 59 total tackles and recorded 4.0 tackles for loss.

The Grand View (Iowa) transfer had a pair of games with double-digit tackles this season, including a season-high 11 tackles against Northern Iowa (Oct. 12).

Mike Reid, defensive back
Transferring in from Monmouth (N.J.), Reid (Sr., Owings Mills, Md.) made 10 starts at cornerback and played in all 11 games for the Coyotes this season. He sat T6th in the MVFC with his eight pass break-ups, becoming a defining part of the opposing offense's game plan to avoid his direction.

He also recorded 31 tackles in the regular season and had one interception.
