VERMILLION, S.D. – Assistant Athletic Director for Communications
Steve Carlson is one of 30 emerging communications professionals named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) 30 Under 30 Class of 2024.
The honor, awarded yearly by a selection group composed of representatives from different CSC Committees, recognizes 30 young communicators who are excelling in strategic, creative, and digital spaces.
Carlson lands on the 30 under 30 list as someone who's drive and attention to detail stands out. He serves on the Young Professionals Committee and is active in the Academic All-America program.
"I'm honored to be recognized in this year's 30 Under 30 class and it's incredible to be recognized in this industry," Carlson said. "It's rewarding to work with such great communicators, student workers, coaches, and athletic departments around me to be able to communicate stories of my athletes."
Carlson joined the South Dakota athletic department in July 2024 after serving as the Assistant Athletic Director for Communications at Black Hills State University (S.D.). Prior to his time in the state of South Dakota, Carlson worked as the Director of Athletic Communications at Northwestern College (Iowa) for two-and-a-half years. He was also the first graduate assistant in the communications office at the American Rivers Conference.
At South Dakota, Carlson is the football contact, where he has led the communication efforts of a Top-5 FCS program who earned a spot in the FCS Playoffs. Beyond that, Carlson leads the USD Communications office in their work with 16 sports and USD's Athletics Website GoYotes.com.
