FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — South Dakota men's basketball dropped a 95-82 contest on the road to Northern Arizona Saturday afternoon at the Rolle Activity Center. The Coyotes move to 7-4 on the season and 1-4 in games away from the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.
Isaac Bruns continues to fill up the scoring column off the bench for the Yotes, as he reached double-figure scoring for the 10th time already this season and eclipsed 20 points for the second time with 22 today on 6-of-12 shooting with three triples. Bruns was also the leading rebounder with seven.
Chase Forte extended his double-figure scoring streak to five games as he added 15 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals.
Four other Coyotes scored eight or more points in
Paul Bruns (9),
Cameron Fens (9),
Max Burchill (9) and
Kaleb Stewart (8).
The Coyotes held an early lead after back-to-back buckets from
Paul Bruns and Burchill, but the Lumberjacks used a 9-1 run to grab a 12-5 lead and would stay in front of the Yotes for the rest of the game. USD's offense was slow to start, and NAU took its largest lead of the half 38-22. The Yotes would close the half strong, outscoring the Lumberjacks 11-3 over the final 2:45 and went into the half trailing by single-digits, 48-41.
Isaac Bruns and Forte accounted for 23 of the Yotes 41 first half points on a combined 8-of-14 shooting.
It was all NAU out of the halftime intermission, as they used a 14-1 to pull ahead 62-42 just four minutes into the final frame. The Lumberjacks held a double-figure lead for the majority of the half, but the Yotes would cut it down to 10 points with 2:45 remaining after four straight made free throws from
Isaac Bruns. NAU iced the game at the free throw line, however, going 10-for-12 from the charity stripe over the final 2:30 to earn a 95-82 win.
South Dakota will return to the SCSC Tuesday, where they are a perfect 6-0, to host Wyoming for a 7:00 p.m. game.
