ATHENS, Georgia – South Dakota softball dropped two more games on Saturday at the Red and Black Showcase hosted by Georgia at Jack Turner Stadium.

The Coyotes were edged by Murray State, 2-1, in the bottom of the seventh and fell 5-2 to Purdue.

MURRAY STATE 2, SOUTH DAKOTA 1
Lily Fischer, who went 3-for-4, singled home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh for the Racers.

South Dakota took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a solo home run from
Clara Edwards, her second career round tripper.
Â
Murray State evened the score with an unearned run in the bottom of the third.
Â
The Racers (1-2) outhit the Coyotes 7-2 as pitcher Jenna Veber pitched a complete game with two walks and two strikeouts.

South Dakota starter
Kori Wedeking worked into the fifth inning, giving up five hits and one unearned run on one walk and two strikeouts in 4.1 innings.
McKenna Young suffered the loss after coming on in the sixth inning.

Alexis Lusk had the other Coyote hit and her and Edwards also drew walks in the contest.

PURDUE 5, SOUTH DAKOTA 2
Purdue plated runs in four of the seven innings and handed the Coyotes a setback for the second straight day to open the season.

The Boilermakers outhit the Coyotes 9-6, getting hits from eight different players in the win.

South Dakota plated a run in the bottom of the first to tie the game at 1-1 on an RBI single from
Gabby Moser.
Â
Autumn Iversen recorded her first collegiate hit, an RBI single, in the seventh for the Coyotes (0-4).
Â
Alexia Terrazas went 2-for-3 in the loss while the other hits came from
Delaney White and
Tatum Villotta.

Edwards pitched into the fifth inning before relief help from
Madi Mangulis and Young.

South Dakota is scheduled, weather permitting, to face Murray State again on Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. ET/8:30 a.m. CT.
