LARAMIE, Wyoming – South Dakota women's tennis team suffered a 4-1 setback in a dual match with Wyoming on Friday inside the Wyoming Tennis Complex.
Â
The Cowgirls won the doubles point and took three of the four singles matches that were finished to move to 6-4 on the season including 3-1 at home.
Â
Grace Chadick earned a straight sets victory for the Coyotes (3-5) in the loss.
Â
"This was a great atmosphere for a college tennis match," coach
Brett Barnett said. "Very hard-fought win for Wyoming.Â
Â
This is one of the toughest places to play in the country and I am so proud of how we fought. I wish we would've started the match off better as it took us some time to play our way into this."
Â
Chadick, a junior, moved to 5-2 in the dual season and 14-4 overall with a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles.
Â
Bea Havlickova, a junior, bounced back from a first set loss to win the second set before falling in a tough three-set battle at No. 1 singles to Sophie Zehender.
Â
Anna Medvyedyeva won the first set at No. 5 singles before the match was halted while
Paige Alter was even at 4 games apiece at No. 6 singles when play was halted.
Â
"Grace played very well and smart and got us a much-needed win," coach Barnett said. "Bea played such a good match and fought and kept us in the match. Anna and Paige competed well but we just ran out of points to play. Â
Â
"We have a chance on Sunday to beat Idaho and get out of here with a split. We need to play a complete match and we will be fine."
Â
South Dakota faces Idaho at 11 a.m. (CT)/10 a.m. (MT) on Sunday.
