Coyotes post two more wins

ATLANTA, Georgia – Strong pitching from Clara Edwards and Kori Wedeking helped lead the South Dakota softball team to two more victories on Saturday at the Panther Invitational at Bob Heck Softball Complex.

Edwards, a junior, twirled her second straight complete game shutout in a 5-0 win over Butler while Wedeking, a senior, notched her first complete game of the season in a 5-2 win over Belmont.

SOUTH DAKOTA 5, BUTLER 0
Edwards tossed 112 pitches and limited Butler to six hits while walking two and striking out two for her 14th career shutout.

Alexis Lusk had two of the six Coyote hits in the victory and drove in her first run of the season with a single in the sixth. Delaney White and Gabby Moser had RBI singles while Rylie Jones added a sacrifice fly.

Tatum Villotta and Edwards had the other South Dakota hits.

SOUTH DAKOTA 5, BELMONT 2
The Coyotes banged out a season-high 10 hits in the win as Maddox Boston and White had two each in support of Wedeking who allowed one earned run on three hits with no walks and a season best eight punch outs.

Jones, a junior, broke the scoreless deadlock with a solo home run to lead off the top of the third inning. Her first round tripper as a Coyote.

White, a sophomore, then snapped a 1-1 tie with a big two-out, two-run single in the top of the fifth inning, scoring Boston and Autumn Iversen. Lusk followed with an RBI single to push the lead to 4-1.

Abi Brown, a freshman, gave South Dakota some insurance with an RBI double in the top of the seventh, scoring Alecea Mendoza, who had a pinch-hit single.

South Dakota (4-5) closes out the Panther Invitational with a single game at 10 a.m. (ET)/9 a.m. (CT) on Sunday against Belmont.
