Coyotes head to Brookings for round two of Interstate Series

The Game
The Coyotes travel to face in-state rival South Dakota State for the second time this season as a part of the Interstate Series presented by First Interstate bank. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. inside Frost Arena.
 
The game will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network. Fans can also tune into the game on the Coyote Sports Network with John Thayer on KVHT 106.3 FM in Yankton/Vermillion, KQSF 95.7 in Sioux Falls, or by using the Varsity Network app.
 
The Coyotes

South Dakota (9-14, 2-6 Summit) is coming off a loss to North Dakota in Vermillion Thursday night. Kaleb Stewart and Paul Bruns each put up 18 points for the Yotes. Bruns scored 16 of his 18 points just in the second half, going 4-of-6 from the three-point line and 5-of-8 from the field. Max Burchill added 16 points, 11 of which also came in the second half.  
 
Stewart, the Coyotes' leading scorer (15.6 ppg), scored a career-high 44 points against Denver on 16-of-31 shooting from the field and 8-of-13 shooting from three. It's the most points scored in a game by a Coyote since 1967 and the fourth-most points scored in a game in program history. Stewart is averaging 21.7 points in Summit play.
 
Senior transfer Lahat Thioune is the 11th-leading rebounder in the nation and his nine double-doubles rank 21st nationally. He has three more double-double performances than any other Summit player. The 6-10 forward is averaging a double-double with 13.3 points per game and 10.0 rebounds per game.
 
The Jackrabbits  
South Dakota State (12-11, 5-3 Summit) is coming off a one-point overtime loss to North Dakota State in Brookings Thursday night.
 
Preseason Summit League Player of the Year Zeke Mayo scored 35 points in the overtime loss, the second-highest scoring output of his career. Mayo leads the Jacks in scoring (19.0 ppg), rebounding (6.1 ppg), and assists (3.5 ppg). The junior guard scored 20 points against South Dakota in Vermillion on Jan. 20, knocking down four three-pointers and shooting 41 percent from the field.
 
William Kyle III also averages 6.1 boards a game for the Jackrabbits. The 6-9 sophomore has ten-straight double-digit scoring games and put up a career-high four blocks against NDSU on Thursday. Kyle III scored 11 points and grabbed eight boards against the Coyotes in Vermillion earlier this season.

The Series
Sunday's matchup marks the 235th meeting between South Dakota and South Dakota State. The Jackrabbits own a 136-98 record against the Coyotes and have won the last eight meetings. South Dakota has not won in Frost Arena since 2021 when the Coyotes defeated the Jacks 64-56 in Brookings.
