MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – South Dakota softball team split a doubleheader with Middle Tennessee State on Tuesday at Blue Raider Stadium.

The Coyotes scored five runs in the top of the eighth inning to win game one 8-5 before falling in game two 4-2.

SOUTH DAKOTA 8, MTSU 5
The five-run eighth-inning broke open a 3-3 game and the Coyotes held on as MTSU plated two in the bottom of the eighth and had the bases loaded when the contest ended.

Alexia Terrazas snapped the deadlock with a pinch-hit three-run double which was followed by run scoring hits from
Alecea Mendoza and
Gabby Moser.
Â
Moser went 2-for-4 and drove in three, hitting a two-run home run in the top of the fifth that snapped a 1-1 tie at the time.

Mendoza also had two hits as South Dakota had 11 in the game as a team.

Kori Wedeking pitched 7.1 innings for the victory, allowing three earned runs on eight hits.

MTSU 4, SOUTH DAKOTA 2
South Dakota was limited to two runs on four hits from Kamryn Carcich and Mary Martinez.

The Coyotes plated a run in the sixth inning when
Brylee Hempey singled and eventually raced home on a ground ball in the infield off the bat of
Tatum Villotta.
Â
Clara Edwards hit a solo home run, her third home run in the last four games, in the top of the seventh inning.
Â
Madi Manguilis, like Hempey, got her first hit of the season in the game while
Autumn Iversen doubled with one out in the fifth to break up Carcich's no-hitter.

South Dakota freshman
McKenna Young suffered the loss allowing four earned runs on six hits.

The Coyotes (13-13) play a single game at Tennessee State at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
