ORLANDO, Fla. – South Dakota women's tennis team continued its strong play on its spring break trip on Tuesday at the UTSA National Campus with a second straight 7-0 win, this time over Morgan State.
Â
The Coyotes (6-8) won two of the three doubles matches and then proceeded to win all six singles matches in straight sets.
Â
"I thought we played a very good match today," coach
Brett Barnett said. "It was hot and humid and Morgan State competed very well."
Â
Sorcha Caves and
Amanda de Oliveira earned a quick 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles followed by a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles from
Anna Medvyedyeva and
Grace Chadick.
Â
"Very good doubles point by us again," said Barnett. "Anna/Grace and Sorcha/Amanda played great and put us 1-0 up quick."
Â
The Coyotes received singles victories from de Oliveira, Medvyedyeva, Caves, Chadick,
Selena Bird and
Hitakamya Narwal.
Â
Narwal, a freshman, and Bird, a sophomore, quickly posted wins and a win from Chadick, a junior, clinched the team win. Chadick leads the team with eight wins during the spring dual season.
Â
Freshman de Oliveira earned her first win of the spring at No. 1 singles.
Â
"Very good job by the bottom of the lineup getting us to four quickly and the top four fought through some tricky moments and got it done," added Barnett. "We're playing well right now and we have another opportunity to get better Wednesday morning against Marist."
Â
South Dakota will close its play in Florida with Wednesday's 7 a.m. (CT) match against Marist.
