Coyotes close Florida swing with win

ORLANDO, Fla. – South Dakota women's tennis team capped its spring break trip on Wednesday at the UTSA National Campus with a 4-0 win over Marist.

The Coyotes won all three doubles matches and then closed out the victory with wins at the first three singles matches.

"Very good performance and team win today," coach Brett Barnett said. "We're not used to early matches and we did a great job once we got going.

Very good doubles point by the team again. I love how aggressive we are playing and complimenting each other."

Grace Chadick and Anna Medvyedyeva opened doubles play with a 6-2 win at No. 2. It's there eighth win during the dual season.

The freshmen duo of Sorcha Caves and Amanda de Oliveira claimed a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles to clinch the doubles point while the No. 1 doubles team of Paige Alter and Bea Havlickova earned a 7-5 win.

Medvyedyeva, a sophomore, claimed the first singles point for the Coyotes with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3. That was followed by a win at No. 2 singles from de Oliveira and a Havlickova clinch at No. 1 singles.

"We only had three courts at the start for singles and the top three took care of business," said Barnett. "Bea has been sick all week and gutted out the clinch for us.

"Amanda and Anna played smart, aggressive tennis and got us to three points."

The win by Medvyedyeva was her eighth during the dual season, tying Chadick for tops on the team.

South Dakota (7-8), winners of three in a row, will resume Summit League play on March 22 in a home match with Kansas City.

"We're playing very well right now and doing a great job not overcomplicating matches," added Barnett. "Great week by the team and this will give us a lot of momentum going into Summit League play again."
