KANSAS CITY, Mo. – South Dakota split day one of the two-day series against Kansas City, picking up a win in game one but falling in game two on Friday.

Clara Edwards threw her fourth complete shutout of the season to help the Yotes pick up their first win of Summit play. Edwards picked up her sixth win of the season and threw four strikeouts.

It was a scoreless affair until the final inning when
Alexia Terrazas hit a bunt to bring in
Brylee Hempey for the winning run.

Camryn Stickel pitched for the Roos and threw five strikeouts in her 10
th loss of the season.

Kansas City 2, South Dakota 1
The Coyotes came out swinging to start game two, hitting three straight singles to load up the bases right away in the first inning. Two bases loaded opportunities for the Yotes were thwarted by the Kansas City defense.

South Dakota's first run of the game came in the fourth inning when
Gabby Moser hit her sixth home run of the season. A scoreless fifth inning kept the Yotes in front, but the Roos put two runs on the board in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead and the win off a Lexy Smith home run.

The Yotes are back in action tomorrow against Kansas City at 11 a.m. to wrap up the three-game series.
