Coyotes drop pair to Omaha

VERMILLION, S.D. – South Dakota (18-25, 3-7 Summit) fell to Omaha (30-8, 7-1 Summit) in both games of today's doubleheader. It was day one of the two-day series hosted by the Coyotes in Vermillion.  
 
Omaha 3, South Dakota 0
Game one started slow and stayed slow until the top of the sixth inning when Omaha scored its first run to take a 1-0 lead. The Mavericks extended their lead out to 3-0 in the top of the seventh and held the Coyotes scoreless.
 
McKenna Young was in the pitcher's circle for the Yotes and recorded her 50th strikeout of the season iin the top of the seventh inning. Kamryn Meyer threw the shutout for Omaha.
 
Omaha 5, South Dakota 2
Both teams came out fast to start game two with Omaha tallying two runs right away in the top of the first and South Dakota responding with a run in the bottom of the first. The Mavericks extended their lead in the top of sixth by scoring two more runs but the Yotes responded in the bottom of the sixth when Clara Edwards doubled to bring in Delaney White. Omaha scored one more run in the top of the seventh and held the Coyote scoreless in the bottom of the seventh to take the 5-2 win.
 
The Coyotes and Mavericks will face off for one more game tomorrow at 11 a.m. at Nygaard Field.
