VERMILLION, S.D. – South Dakota (19-25, 4-7 Summit) defeated Omaha (30-9, 7-2 Summit) 5-1 to give the Mavericks their second league loss of the season.

The Coyotes came out swinging to start the game and set the tone, scoring five runs right away in the bottom of the first inning.
Delaney White started the run for South Dakota with an RBI that brought in
Alivia Conte to take the 1-0 lead.
Clara Edwards took a walk to load up the bases for the Coyotes and
Alexia Terrazas was up to bat. Terrazas split the gap between first and second and singled to right field, bringing in
Gabby Moser to take a 2-0 lead.

South Dakota loaded up the bases once again and
Autumn Iversen hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring
Delaney White home and take a 3-0 lead over the Mavericks. With the bases loaded once again,
Rylie Jones stepped up to the plate and hit a single that brought in two more runs for the Coyotes and gave South Dakota 5-0 lead.

Omaha scored its single run in the top of third but could not overcome the large lead South Dakota had built to start the game.

Kori Wedeking started in the pitcher's circle for South Dakota and
McKenna Young finished the game for the Coyotes. Wedeking pitched 2.1 innings before Young took over and pitched the remaining 4.2 innings. Young threw four strikeouts and held the Mavericks scoreless.

Summit League play continues on the road as the Coyotes travel to face St. Thomas on April 20-21 in St. Paul.
