VERMILLION, S.D.— University of South Dakota Director of Athletics Jon Schemmel is excited to announce the promotion of Jacob Mutziger to Assistant Director of Events.       
 
"Jacob is a great young professional who has developed within the USD ranks, and we are excited to have him join Event Operations in this full-time capacity," said Associate AD for Events and Facilities Sean Beam.  "Jacob's passion and excitement for USD comes through in his day-to-day interactions with staff, coaches and student athletes and we look forward to seeing him continue to grow in his new role."
 
Mutziger joined the USD staff in 2022 as a graduate assistant for event management.  He was promoted to the full-time position of "facility operations specialist" last summer.  Mutziger has served as the head game manager for USD women's soccer and softball events, and assisted with men's basketball.  He has also served as liaison to other parties on gameday, such as officials and visiting teams. 
 
A graduate of USD, Mutziger returned to Vermillion after spending a year as an athletic event coordinator at Dakota State University.  He was on the Dean's List every semester during his time as an undergraduate.
 
Mutziger will begin his new duties at USD immediately.
