VERMILLION, S.D. – South Dakota men's basketball announced the addition of Ashton Smith to the 2024-25 roster. Smith is a 6-9 junior forward from Oral Roberts University.

Smith spent two seasons at Texas A&M before transferring to Oral Roberts last season. The Spring, Texas, native saw action in 16 games for the Golden Eagles. He scored a season-high nine points and grabbed six rebounds at Denver. Smith averaged 6.4 minutes per game and 2.1 points per game on 72.2 percent shooting from the floor.

In high school, Smith was named to the District 16-6A first team and was ranked as the 14
th-best prospect in Texas by 247Sports. Smith joins a familiar face in
Kaleb Stewart as the two played AAU basketball together.

The son of Nicole Jackson and Derrick Smith, Smith plans to major in sport management at South Dakota.Â
