GRAND FORKS, N.D. – South Dakota (18-21, 3-4 Summit) swept North Dakota (6-34, 0-5 Summit) on day one of the two-day series in Grand Forks.
South Dakota 5, North Dakota 3
Game one went into extra innings as neither team could bring a run in for the first seven innings. The Coyotes and Fighting Hawks both scored three runs in the eighth innings, forcing a ninth inning where the Yotes scored twice and held North Dakota scoreless to take the win.
Tatum Villotta racked up three RBIs and
Delaney White tallied two RBIs in the extra innings to help the Yotes come out on top.
Clara Edwards picked up her seventh win of the season and threw four strikeouts in nine innings pitched.
South Dakota 8, North Dakota 0
Kori Wedeking and
McKenna Young combined for a complete game shutout. Wedeking threw nine strikeouts in five innings pitched and Young threw three strikeouts in one inning pitched.
It was another scoreless affair for both sides until a big fourth inning for the Coyotes created a 6-0 advantage.
Gabby Moser hit her seventh home run of the season in the sixth inning to give South Dakota an 8-0 lead and ending the game in the sixth inning.
The Yotes are back in action tomorrow against North Dakota at 1 p.m. to wrap up the three-game series.
