Hear from the Coaches; Yotes Wrap Up First Week of Camp

08.02.2024

VERMILLION, S.D. — The South Dakota football team wrapped up their first week of Fall Camp on Friday. Battling the heat all week long, the Coyotes hit the ground running with five days of practice.

Head coach Bob Nielson noted the team hit the ground running and the squad has been focused. Offensive coordinator Josh Davis summed up the first week of camp: "The brotherhood."
Hear from Coach Nielson and the coordinators on the team and the first week of Fall Camp below.

HC Bob Nielson
"We've hit the ground running and in preseason that's exactly what you want to do. You don't want to get off to a slow season in preseason camp and we haven't. We've got a lot of work done in this first week and been able to progress rapidly."

"The team's been very focused. The first couple of weeks is to get everything installed, really work hard on the fundamental aspects. They're coming to work; they care about winning – it's easy to see. They're doing things the right way."
Associate HC/DC Travis Johansen
"We have really talented players. How we raise our level of execution, that's what we're working on all camp. They're fast, they're physical, they got aggression – we just have to point that in the right direction as coaches."

"Our goal is to get this really good offense of ours the ball back as much as possible. Our job is to make that offense's job easier, and we certainly plan on doing that (this season)."

OC Josh Davis
"The guys care about each other and what we're trying to accomplish this year. I feel like the buy-in is very satisfying. We're going up against a really good defense every day and we're going to be better because of that."

"We want to increase our points per game (this season) and we're trying to create more explosive plays as a coaching staff. Yote fans can expect to see a winning product. A team that they can be proud of in the way that we take the field."
