GREELEY, Colo. – South Dakota women's soccer got the road trip started with a match at Northern Colorado Thursday night, falling to the Bears 1-0.
Northern Colorado (2-7) scored in the 57
th minute to take the lead and wouldn't relinquish it. The Coyotes managed three shots in the match, and one in the second half.
The first half saw the Coyotes put immediate pressure on the Bears, lining up a corner kick in the opening 30 seconds of the match, but the offense would be limited for the remainder of the half.
Janaina Zanin (Gr., Pierre, S.D.) was the key force for the Coyote offense in the opening 45 minutes, kicking two shots, one on target in the half. Defensively,
Cambell Fischer (So., Hartford, S.D.) kept the Coyotes in the match with four saves in the first half.
The Coyotes had opportunities late in the second half to tie the match, but a strong back line from the Bears prevented the Coyotes from being able to get a shot at the Northern Colorado keeper.
South Dakota will look to pick up their first win away from the home turf in 2024 on Sunday at Wyoming. The Coyotes and Cowgirls are set for a 2 p.m. Central Time kick-off in Laramie.
