SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — After an impressive first weekend in front of South Dakota fans at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center, freshman
Lauren Medeck has earned her first Summit League Offensive Peak Performer of the Week honor.
Medeck led South Dakota with 49 kills on the weekend, a 3.77 kills per set average, as the Coyotes went 3-0 at their home tournament, the South Dakota Classic. Medeck hit at a .266 clip, tallied 34 digs, one service ace and had nine total blocks (three solo).
Medeck put away a season-high 20 kills in the Coyotes win over Montana State to open the USD Classic Friday night and recorded her first of two double-doubles on the weekend with 18 digs. She also tallied a double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs in USD's four-set win over UTEP on Sunday. Medeck took part in four blocks against the Miners, including two solo rejections.
In a 3-1 win over Iowa State, Medeck put down 16 kills with a .310 hitting percentage, her best attack rate of the weekend, as the Yotes won their second match over a Power 4 opponent in under a week. She also notched six digs and three blocks against the Cyclones.
"Lauren had a fantastic weekend! She was a huge part of our success as a team this weekend, and I am proud of how much she has grown during her time here," said head coach
Leanne Williamson. "She is a true competitor! Lauren's offensive contributions helped this team go 3-0 this weekend, and I am excited to see what else she accomplishes this season!"
Medeck has recorded five straight matches with double-digit kills, has led the team in kills in those five contests and has three double-doubles in the past four matches.
South Dakota holds a 6-2 record and will close out its non-conference schedule at the Kwik Star Klassic, hosted by the University of Iowa, in Coralville, Iowa later this week. The Coyotes will face off against the Hawkeyes on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. before facing Drake and Saint Louis on Friday and Saturday.
