SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Following her performance at the Kwik Star Klassic, where she was named the tournament's MVP,
Avery Van Hook has picked up her first career Summit League Peak Performer of the Week honor. It's the second straight week with a Coyote being recognized by the conference, as freshman
Lauren Medeck picked up the same honor last week.
Van Hook was named the Co-Offensive Peak Performer of the Week with South Dakota State's Sydni Schetnan, while the Jackrabbits Madison Burr was named the Defensive Peak Performer of the Week.
"Avery did a great job this weekend finding the open attackers and getting the right people involved," said head coach
Leanne Williamson. "She also found ways to be efficient offensively throughout the weekend. She continues to get better and make adjustments as necessary, so this is a well-deserved award!"
Van Hook dished out 144 assists over three matches at the Kwik Star Klassic, which ranked No. 8 across the NCAA last week, tallied 15 kills of her own, had two aces and 40 digs. Van Hook averaged 11.08 assists per set as the Coyotes went 2-1 with wins over Drake and Saint Louis. On the season, Van Hook is averaging 10.64 assists per set, a mark that sits first among Summit League setters and ranks No. 17 in the NCAA. She recorded a double-double with assists and digs in all three matches on the weekend.
In the Coyotes 3-1 win over Drake on Friday, Van Hook dished out 51 assists and helped the Coyote hitters to a .259 attack rate, their highest mark of the weekend. In addition to her duties as the setter, Van Hook was busy at the net with a career high eight kills on 11 attacks and took part in three blocks. She also tallied a double-double with 17 digs and two aces.
In Saturday's matchup against the Billikens, Van Hook notched 51 assists for the second match in a row, had 11 digs and four kills in the four-set win for USD. She had 42 assists, 12 digs and five kills in a five-set loss to the Hawkeyes Thursday night.
