While the Fighting Hawks held the lead for nearly 30 minutes of game time, the turning point in the contest came with 10 minutes left in the second half. With the Yotes trailing 77-74, a bucket from Mayuom Buom would start a 16-2 run over the next six minutes with USD taking a 90-79 lead. Forte scored six points during the run, while Paul Bruns and Bullock knocked down back-to-back treys. USD took its largest lead of the night, 96-83, following four straight points from Paul Bruns with 1:07 left. South Dakota went 10-for-10 from the free line over the final 1:30 to ice the 102-93 win.

The combination of Stewart, Smith, Forte and Isaac Bruns accounted for 43 of USD 49 first half points while shooting 18-for-28 from the field with six triples. There was plenty of offense in the first 20 minutes with UND carrying a 51-49 at the intermission. A combined 15 3-pointers were made between the two teams and both squads shot above .500 percent from the floor in the first half.
