SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – South Dakota track and field freshman
Anna Willis received her first conference honor of the season and of her career by being named the Kwik Star Co-Women's Field Peak Performer of the Week, announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon.
Willis, a freshman from Colorado Springs, Colo., becomes the second South Dakota women's pole vaulter to earn Peak Performer honors as
Cassidy Mooneyhan received the award last week. Willis won the pole vault competition at the Mark Colligan Memorial in Lincoln, Neb. Saturday.
Willis cleared 14-4 ¾ (4.39m) on her second attempt to win the event. Earlier this winter, Willis had cleared 13-11 ¼ (4.25m) to win the SDSU Holiday Open to enter the Coyote Top 10, but climbed up to No. 5 after her performance in Lincoln.
Willis has the second highest clearance in the Summit League this season, behind Mooneyhan's performance at the USD Alumni Meet. Her mark of 14-4 ¾ is tied for 10
th in the NCAA this indoor season.
North Dakota's Kenna Curry also received the Co-Women's Field Peak Performer honor this week.
Willis and the Coyotes head to Kansas State Friday and Saturday for the DeLoss Dodds Invitational.
