TULSA, Okla. – South Dakota soccer fell behind early to Oral Roberts, and were unable to overcome that deficit, falling in Tulsa 2-1 Sunday afternoon. The Coyotes fall to 6-4-5 and 2-2-1 in conference play, while the Golden Eagles move to 10-3-2 and 4-0-1.
Â
FIRST HALF
Oral Roberts had the wind at their back in the first half and applied the pressure for most of the half. The Golden Eagles put goals on the board in the 12
th and 28
th minutes. In total Oral Roberts had 12 shots, seven on goal, leading to five saves by Coyote goalkeeper
Cambell Fischer. The Yote offense was held quiet with no shots. South Dakota had a handful of offensive pushes and crosses into the goalie box, but couldn't get a clean shot against the stout Golden Eagle defense.
Â
SECOND HALF
The two teams flipped sides of the field, and South Dakota nearly immediately got on the board with a goal from
Mali Van Meeteren, her third of the season, 59 seconds into the half.
Campbell Zimmers assisted on the Van Meeteren goal, which was the first shot of the game for the Yotes. Oral Roberts still outshot the Yotes in the half 11-5, but South Dakota had a trio of strong opportunities, including a
Izzy Quintavalle shot on goal that was saved.
Â
In total, Fischer finished with nine saves in the USD loss. Van Meeteren and
Brooke Conway totaled two shots apiece. USD finished with five shots, two on goal, and two corner kicks in the match. ORU's aggressiveness offensively led to 23 shots, 11 on goal, and seven corner kicks, but also led to three yellow cards to USD's zero.
Â
The Coyotes return home for their final home contest of the regular season, hosting South Dakota State at 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon at First Bank & Trust Soccer Complex. It is a "Red Out" game and will be streamed on the Summit League Network powered by Midco Sports Plus.
