VERMILLION, S.D. – The South Dakota Coyotes played a hard-fought match against rival South Dakota State Jackrabbits today at the First Bank & Trust Soccer Complex. The contest ended in a 0-0 draw, marking a tightly contested game between two competitive Summit League opponents.
Both teams battled through two scoreless halves, demonstrating strong defensive play and goalkeeping. South Dakota outshot SDSU 16 to 10, including 4 shots on goal, while SDSU registered 7 shots on target. Goalkeepers from both sides made key saves, with USD's keepers stopping 7 shots and SDSU's keeper recording 4 saves to preserve the clean sheet.
The match saw disciplined play with 23 fouls combined and a single caution issued to South Dakota State's Emma Brezenski at the 52-minute mark. Corner kick opportunities were evenly matched at 4 apiece for each team.
Late in the match Coyote goalkeeper Cambell Fischer came out of the match with an injury and was replaced by Kelsie Luquin. Luquin came in and made a critical save in the final minutes, denying a corner kick goal.
With the result, South Dakota moves to 6-4-6 overall and 2-2-2 in conference play, while South Dakota State moves to 9-2-5 overall and 3-1-2 in the Summit League standings.
The Coyotes hit the road next week as they face off on Thursday against Omaha, and Sunday against Denver to finish the regular season.
