Men Outscore Missouri S&T, women fall to Kansas

LAWRENCE, KAN. — South Dakota competed in a pair of two-day duals while in Kansas, with the men winning 193-154 to Missouri S&T and the women falling to Kansas 105-241. The men's team posted seven individual wins, as well as three relay wins.
 
Two Coyotes had multiple individual wins in the meet. Joaquin Contreras-Fallico won both the 100 and 200 back (51.05 and 1:51.05), while Nick Rounds won the 50 free and 100 fly (20.45 and 49.42). 
 
Other wins came from Alex Parkinson in the 500 free (4:38.57), Charlie Matthews in the three meter dive (265.73), and Maddox Mork in the one meter dive (279.75). 
 
The men's team also took the win in the 200, 400, and 800 free relays. Rounds, Matthew Sorbe, James Schreiber, and Jordan Hogue made up the 200 team and won in 1:23.56. Rounds, Sorbe, Schreiber, and David Mayer won the 400 in 3:05.66. Sorbe, Schreiber, Mayer, and Will Barth won the 800 in 6:57.41. 
 
The women's team posted multiple second place finishes on the day. Gabbie Ahrendt was second in the 100 fly with a time of 58.49. Taylor Buhr was second in the 200 breast in 2:22.04. Emily DiProspero swam the 500 free in 5:18.78 for a second place finish. 
 
Mady Gehrke took second in the 100 free with a time of 53.44. Madysen Schmidt was second in the one meter dive with a score of 221.03. Emerson Smith was second in the 200 back in 2:08.10. 
 
The relay team of Gehrke, Alex Peterson, Lauren Eschmeyer, and Henley Hatzung were second in the 200 free relay. Ahrendt, Peterson, Gehrke, and Hatzung were second in the 400 free relay. 
 
UP NEXT 
The Coyotes swimming and diving team will be back in action on Friday, October 24 at 3 p.m. when they return home to the USD Natatorium to take on Iowa State University in a dual.
