DENVER, Colo. – Despite a hard-fought effort and a second-half lead, the South Dakota women's soccer team came up just short Sunday afternoon, falling 2–1 to Denver.
After a scoreless first half, the Coyotes struck first in the 73rd minute. Morgan Sullivan netted her second goal of the season, finishing a well-placed tip pass from Sadie Strait and Rylee Haldeman to give USD a 1–0 advantage.
Denver responded with two goals in quick succession. Brooke Ahern equalized in the 83rd minute off an assist from Isabella Chidiac, and Hannah Tate put the Pioneers ahead three minutes later with her second goal of the season, sealing the 2–1 result.
South Dakota put together 11 shots—three on target—compared to Denver's 15 (eight on frame). Campbell Fischer tallied six saves in the match, while the Pioneers' keeper stopped two.
